Ascertain led home a European 1 – 2 in the Gr.3 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland on Friday. The six-year-old son of Intikhab stormed home and held off the challenge of Always First (Barathea) for his first Graded victory.

Bred by Darley, he is a €42,000 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale graduate bought by owner Paul Dixon. The winner of seven races from 23 starts on both sides of the Atlantic, he is now likely to have the Gr.1 Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park as his next target.

His sire, the Derrinstown Stud-based Intikhab was the World Champion Turf Horse in 1998 and is also the sire of the Gr.1 Matron Stakes winner Red Evie and the Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Paita.
