Breeding Season Requirements 2023

1. Swabbing Requirements

(a) We require a certificate from an Irish, U.K or French recognised State Laboratory stating that the mare is NEGATIVE on one clitoral swab taken after January 1st 2023 for the following:

(a) Pseudomonas
(b) Klebsiella
(c) C.E.M.

(b) Also a negative cervical swab taken in 2023 before covering. Otherwise mares will not be covered and will be isolated until such time as a negative Clitoral and Cervical swab has been taken at Derrinstown Stud.

2. Equine Infectious Anaemia
(EIA / Swamp Fever)

All mares from Ireland and the UK require a negative EIA cert taken in 2023. All mares originating from outside Ireland and the UK will require a negative Coggins or Elisa cert taken no more than 14 days prior to arrival in this country, and a second test MUST be taken a minimum of 14 DAYS after arrival in this country.

3. EVA Procedure

It is essential that one negative EVA blood is taken after January 1st 2023 by a recognised Irish or U.K. Laboratory. Breeders sending mares from outside of Ireland and England require 1 negative sample taken prior to departing their country of origin and MUST allow a minimum of 12 DAYS after arrival in IRELAND for an EVA blood to be taken and results to be certified prior to covering.

4. Dourine Requirements

Mares from Italy will require a negative Dourine blood test result taken after January 1st 2023. This blood test must be taken at least 14 DAYS after arrival in Ireland and prior to arriving at Derrinstown Stud.

5. Vaccinations

(a) Every mare should have vaccinations for Flu & Tetanus up to date and that vaccination history be passed on to this Stud, otherwise Derrinstown Stud may vaccinate the animal at its discretion.

(b) If animals have been vaccinated against strangles, please advise us.

6. Contract / Passport / Markings / Certificates

No mare will be covered without a signed contract, passport and negative CEM, EVA and EIA (COGGINS/ELISA) certificates. It is the mare owner’s specific responsibility to ensure that all relevant documentation is presented correctly on mare’s arrival at Derrinstown Stud.

7. Arrivals & Departures

Clients intending to deliver or collect mares must notify this Office well in advance. Mares In Season arriving at Derrinstown Stud after 1pm may not be checked by our Vet until the following day, therefore it is advisable that all visiting mares should be delivered as early as possible.
