RED EVIE lands Group 2 prize

19th August 2007

Red Evie kept up her perfect record at Newbury with a thrilling late surge to snatch yesterdays Gr.2 Hungerford Stakes from last years winner Welsh Emperor (Emperor Jones) on the line.

This was her second major victory at the Berkshire track, following this Mays defeat of Ramonti in the Gr.1 Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes.

She now returns to Ireland to defend her Gr.1 Matron Stakes crown at Leopardstown, after which she may visit Longchamp for the Gr.1 Prix de la Foret. Connections intend to offer her for sale at the end of the year.

The highly consistent daughter of Derrinstown Studs Intikhab has now landed nine of her thirteen starts, with three of her four defeats coming in Gr.1 company and the other on her racecourse debut at two.
