Awtaad’s moment of glory came in the Irish 2000 Guineas, where he comprehensively outpointed a top class field which included the English Guineas winner Galileo Gold and Air Force Blue, recording a faster time than Kingman’s in the same race a couple of years earlier. Racing Post was in no doubt about the quality of his display, commenting that ‘…the way he went through the gears was breathtaking… it was a splendidly authoritative performance’.
Awtaad’s other successes came in the Group 2 Boomerang Stakes, where he defeated Group 1 winners Gordon Lord Byron and Hit It A Bomb, and the Tetrarch Stakes, where his principal victim was Blue de Vega. He was also placed in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, where he had three other Group 1 winners behind him.
